Arna Bontemps, who was born in Alexandria in 1902, earned a graduate degree from the University of Chicago, and was the head librarian at Fisk University until his retirement, wrote novels, short stories, poems and children’s books. His work will be the focus of a senior course on African American Writers.
The course will also include works by Langston Hughes, and Toni Morrison. A discussion group for the community about the work of each writer will be held on Monday afternoons in room 147 MPAC from 3 until 4 pm through LSUA’s Continuing Education.
